Few men have had such a long time-line of touching hurting lives and effecting miraculous change as Rev. Peter Popoff. Peter’s grandfather and father grew up in a culture behind the Iron Curtain where preaching the Gospel was forbidden and both were tortured because of their faith. Communism was in full-fledge. Churches were hidden – underground. Pastor Peter escaped Berlin, Germany when he was
just a young boy. He remembers traveling with his family by boat to America and seeing the Statue of Liberty for the first time. But he did not forget where he came from and the One who brought him here and called him for a purpose.
In his young 20’s, Peter met his wife Elizabeth. They traveled together preaching and teaching in churches and conferences across America. His sermons were filled with stories of the underground churches and how he was reaching them with huge helium balloons filled with Bibles that would land in Communist territory. The results of these Bible invasions were phenomenal. Thousands of underground Christian believers are grateful for Peter’s commitment In the latter part of the 1970’s Rev. Popoff received the vision of reaching multitudes via radio. His broadcasts were heard on over 100 stations across America and other parts of the world.
In the 80’s he used the most ingenious methods for getting Bibles, gospel tracts and other Christian literature into countries where the Word was forbidden.
The 1990’s were punctuated by his personal appearances in auditoriums and stadiums in nations throughout the world. Tens of thousands have been saved, healed and delivered from every form of demon oppression as the man of God preached the glories of Christ to them. Peter maximized his worldwide outreaches through satellite TV in the 90’s.
From 2002-2012 while America struggled with what was known in the financial world as the “lost” decade, leaving our nation in the throes of the worst financial recession since the great depression, thousands experienced miracle financial breakthroughs because Peter Popoff was bold enough to proclaim God’s truth about debt cancellation and true riches.
Now, in 2019, after being in ministry for over 55 years, Peter continues to spread the love and power of Jesus Christ here in the United States and around the world. God still speaks and works through HIS Word! He believes that reading and hearing God’s Word builds our faith, changes our perspective, gives us insight, hope and answers. The Bible is powerful and is used as God’s main communication tool. Hebrews 4:12 says: “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” What better way to minister
the Good News of the Gospel than to get Bibles out to people in prisons who need to hear this word of hope?
God has put it on Peter’s heart to continue to get Bibles to those who need them. He is focusing on getting Bibles to those in the prison system and their families and to bring hope to dark areas in our world. According to a recent article by Laura Dimon and others, the U.S. has the largest prison population in the world. Here are some other statistics she noted that are astounding:
- The United States has 5% of the world’s population, but 25% of the world’s prisoners.
- The total incarcerated population in the U.S. is a staggering 2.4 million — a 500% increase over the
past 30 years.
- One in every 108 adults was in prison or jail in 2012.
- One in 28 American children has a parent behind bars.
Many people in prison have lost hope and need Jesus. God has called us to minister the good news of
the gospel and to the men and women in prison need Jesus. They need the Word of God. Even if you
have not been in prison, you most likely know someone who has been. Maybe even someone in your
family. The circumstances surrounding those in the prisons are dark and sometimes seem hopeless.
But God is the light they need!
